When you first start a world, you will need to get wood to make a house. Then, open your inventory. In the right corner are four slots.

Put the wood in the one of the slots. Next to the four slots is one slot when you put the wood in, the one slot will fill with wood planks. Use the wood planks to make walls and a ceiling. To make a door follow this picture.
